MOST EFFECTIVE WAY TO GET GRASS AND DIRT STAINS OUT OF SLIDING PANTS

I decided to write this post for those of you that are new "Baseball Mom's".  Personally, I have been scrubbing stains out of baseball pants for many years and thought that I would share with all of you the most effective method I have found so far!  The best product I have found is Zout, not all stores carry it (Walgreens is where I can usually find it) so when I am at a store that has it I stock up. The one that I use comes in a red spray bottle.  If your store does carry Zout, it will be in the laundry aisle by the other stain removers like Shout and Oxyclean.

Items needed:
Zout
Scrub brush (like you use on tile floors, an old toothbrush will work if you don't have one)
Baking Soda
White Vinegar
Flat Surface

Directions:

Lay the baseball  pants on a flat surface.  Saturate the heavily stained areas with Zout and let sit for 15 minutes.  While the pants are sitting, start your washing machine (warm water) and add 1/2cup baking soda, 1 cup white vinegar and your normal laundry detergent (of course you are not running the washing machine through a cycle, you are just preparing to add the pants). Do not add other laundry to this load, you want to make sure that you wash these pants seperately! After the pants have sat for 15 minutes, gently scrub saturated area by moving your scrub brush in a circular  motion. (Remember, the dirt is still going to show since it has not yet gone through the wash and rinse cycle.) Be cautious when scrubbing the pants, you want to break down the dirt and grass stains but scrubbing to hard can begin the process of breaking down the actual fiber of the pants material which you want to avoid, remember you son/daughter will be wearing these pants all season which will require numerous scrubbings!  Once you have gently scrubbed the stains, place the pants in the washing machine and run them through the longest cycle.  When the pants are done washing make sure to inspect them and determine if all of the stains are out.  If the pants have HEAVY dirt stains (like the red dirt we find here inAZ) you may be required to repeat these steps a second time.  PLEASE KEEP IN MIND,  if it is  necessary to do the steps a second time, DO  NOT DRY THE PANTS as this will set the stains.  Ifa second  scrubbing is needed, while the pants are still wet, lay flat again and begin the process all over by saturating the stains with Zout.
